Norpro Grip EZ Stainless Steel Compost Keeper Review

I’ve had previous compost keeper’s – including just a regular bucket – and while they did a reasonable job of containing the stuff that was decomposing, boy did they stink! I’d kind of got used to the smell I guess but when ever I had people over, the first comments were nearly always “what’s that smell?”. Time for a solution I think! After doing some research, I settled on the Norpro Grip EZ Stainless Steel Compost Keeper for a few reasons, but mainly because it’s advertised as being “odor-free”.

8 months later, the result? I love this thing! First of all, it’s a gorgeous design as far as compost keeper’s go. It’s constructed from stainless steel and generally has a nice look to it, so you don’t mind having it visible in the kitchen. It’s also a great size, with a 1 Gallon capacity. It takes my husband and I just over 1 week to fill it up, so I’m happy in that respect, but it also means that it can be stored in a cupboard quite easily should you not want it in sight.

The main reason I purchased the Norpro Grip EZ was for it’s charcoal filter integration that is advertised as providing odor-free use for up to 6 months. Well, I can’t argue with that. It works fantastically and there’s absolutely no hint of a whiff coming from it. I’ve replaced the filter once in the 8 months that I’ve owned it, so I’d agree with the time frame.

Some other things I like about this compost keeper is that it’s easy to clean, simply with soap and water, and it has a handle, making it portable for the trips down to the compost heap.

As for downsides, I’m being a bit picky really, but I guess the build quality could be a touch better. It’s stainless steel so it does feel and look good, but it also feels a bit cheap. On top of that, I’d consider it a little pricey expensive for a compost bucket. But I am being pretty harsh here because the quality of this countertop composter is quite fantastic.

Here’s a summary of the Norpro Grip EZ:

Pros:

  • Very nice design
  • Emits no odor
  • Good size
  • Handle for portability
  • Easy to clean

Cons:

  • Build quality could be better
  • On the pricier side (even though its worth it)

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Norpro Grip EZ and it’s a product I’d definitely recommended to others. It looks good, it’s easy to clean, it’s odor-free and it ultimately does a good job of what it was designed to do. This is a countertop composter you’ll enjoy using.
